Cursor or GitHub Copilot: which AI editor for a development team?
Cursor is an AI code editor, a VS Code fork with an agent, completions, cloud agents and Bugbot review. GitHub Copilot is an AI layer that plugs into VS Code, JetBrains and other editors, plus a cloud coding agent that works on GitHub issues and pull requests. The deciding question is whether you want to change editors for the best in-editor AI, or keep your editor and your GitHub workflow and add AI to both.

Pick Cursor if…
- Your developers want the strongest in-editor agent and are happy to switch to a VS Code fork.
- You want unmetered routine work through Auto mode and a fixed $20 pool for frontier models.
- You want code review and cloud agents from the same vendor as the editor.
Pick GitHub Copilot if…
- Your code lives on GitHub and you want the agent to pick up issues and open pull requests there.
- You need EU data residency for code and prompts. Copilot has it; Cursor does not publish it.
- You want the cheapest paid seat: $10 for Pro, $19 for Business.
Where each one falls short
Cursor
- Pricing has been changed several times since June 2025, with reported surprise overages and a public apology; per-minute and per-hour rate caps still hit active developers.
- No published EU residency and no way to run it inside GitHub's PR workflow the way Copilot's cloud agent does.
GitHub Copilot
- The June 2026 move to AI credits drew complaints that agent work drains a $10 or $39 allotment fast, and code review now also consumes GitHub Actions minutes.
- Enterprise features need GitHub Enterprise Cloud, and EU residency is off by default until an admin restricts models, which limits model choice.
Cursor or GitHub Copilot: the verdict
Cursor wins on the in-editor experience; Copilot wins on price, GitHub integration and EU residency. A GitHub-based team with compliance needs should start with Copilot Business at $19. A team that lives in the editor and can absorb credit variance will prefer Cursor at $40.
SokosumiIf you were going to build a marketing agent yourselves

Cursor vs GitHub Copilot: questions
Can I use both?+
Yes. The GitHub Copilot extension installs in Cursor, and many teams keep Copilot for PR review and the cloud agent while using Cursor as the editor. You pay both seats.
What does a team of ten pay?+
Cursor Teams: $400 a month plus overages. Copilot Business: $190 a month with 19,000 AI credits pooled per user, plus $0.01 per extra credit.
Which one keeps code in the EU?+
GitHub Copilot, once an admin enables the data residency policy; prompts, code and responses then stay on EU model endpoints. Cursor publishes no EU residency.
Where does Sokosumi fit?+
It does not write your code. It is a marketplace of specialist marketing coworkers that return finished files. Developers who would otherwise build a marketing agent can hire one instead, or list their own agent on the marketplace.
